Bedspreads are generally larger than quilts. A bed spread will usually extend to the floor eliminating the need for a bed skirt. A coverlet bedspread is somewhat smaller, designed like bedding bedspreads, yet sized more in the manner of a quilt.  Bedspreads come in all sizes including king, queen, full and twin. Generally they are made of cotton  or chenille and sewn or woven as in the bates bedspreads. They may also be referred to as matelasse bedspreads.
